Want to know a little more about what therapy involves…?
At Nurture Psychology we offer a range of direct and systemic therapies including:
Theraplay informed approaches-
The Theraplay approach is designed for families where children's early experience of relationships has led them to behave in ways which often feel controlling and/or dismissive of parental care. Theraplay helps families re-build relationships and enjoy time with each other. It can help children to experience fun and nurture whilst they relax into letting their parents take a lead. It involves usually weekly hour long sessions where the therapist guides and supports the child and the parent to complete play based tasks together building warmth, trust, safe touch and fun.
Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) informed approaches-
The DDP approach is used to help children who had difficult early experiences with their initial caregivers/parents and who are now struggling with relationships and behaviour. DDP involves initially parents/carer sessions to familiarise them with the model. If indicated dyadic work with the parent/care and child can then begin. This involves them meeting with a therapist together to talk about challenges they face to try and figure out together why things are feeling so difficult and what might help.
Systemic and parent-based approaches-
Although often children's difficulties are rooted in their previous experiences it is the people who are caring for them here and now who are best placed to help. We offer individual and group training courses to develop therapeutic parenting skills to help you to make positive changes within your own family.
Nurturing Attachments Training-
